Covid-19

Covid-19

UPDATED: 23rd March 2020

Hello all

Today the Prime Minister raised our level from level 2 to level 3. Along with that, Kingsview School will be closed from tomorrow, Tuesday 24th March, for all students other than children of “essential workers.” The government has defined essential workers as follows:

You may wish to check if you are considered an essential worker – https://covid19.govt.nz/government-actions/covid-19-alert-system/  however those roles include doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers and police. We continue to ask that children who are not well, do not attend school.

In essence, if you do not need to send your child to school even if you are on that list, please keep them at home.

From midnight Wednesday, ALL schools will be closed for ALL students.

School holidays brought forward
School holidays are being brought forward so that they are completed within the 4 week period. Holidays will now begin from Monday 30 March to Tuesday 14 April inclusive (a reminder that the Tuesday after Easter Monday is always a closed day for schools).  At the end of the school holidays, schools will be open for distance learning but not physically open for staff to work on site.

Please note the instruction to stay home (Alert Level 4) will continue beyond the new school holiday period but schools will be technically open for distance instruction. Teachers will be working offsite.

Kingsview Staff will be at school Tuesday and Wednesday putting together a variety of resources to support you while the isolation period is on. This will include some online work, but also some practical hands-on materials. We will also provide some ideas around a timetable which includes some must do’s, some can do’s and some other ideas for extension. We will have a drop off and pick up point for books and resources and we will let you know how this will work.

If you require assistance around a device over this period please contact me.

It is important to keep a balance during the next period and we are certainly not encouraging hours of screen time. Exercise, fresh air, creative time with art, collage, building or even some baking would be desirable.  As parents you also need to take care of yourselves as this will be a difficult time. It is my intention to be helpful and not overload you with ridiculous expectations and workload for the kids. We are here to support and help you so please talk to us.  I will continue to provide updates and emails around the next steps tomorrow.

Just a reminder:  Only send your child to school if you are an essential worker and the short window will assist you putting things into place.

School is closed for all other students from NOW.

God bless you

Please take care of yourselves and your families

Mike
